Job interviews are pivotal moments in your career. Deciding to join a new company requires careful decision making and consideration. Is this the right product, opportunity for you? Does the company have sufficient resources to set you up for success? Does the board and senior leadership team build strategy and execute effectively?

Would achieving the companies key strategic objectives be a program of work you could hang-your-hat on, and launch you into the next role?

These are the questions to ask to help you determine if this role, this organisation is the right one for you.

  • What’s the business strategy?
  • How do you anticipate marketing will help you achieve those goals?
  • What’s the financial upside if those goals are achieved?
  • What have you planned to invest in marketing to get there?
  • If you don’t get the right person and don’t achieve it — what’s the impact?

The key insight here is to pivot away from the direct cost of you, and focus on the benefits of delivering a strategy, impact to core results.

To understand the core things they want to measure in $$ for the business.

Then how much is the investment allocated to achieve it, and over what time period.

Then the biggie — reverse engineer it… so if you don’t get the right person and don’t achieve it — what’s the impact?
